The Dokuz Eylul University Hospital in Izmir (Turkey) has just initiated their VAD (Ventricular Assist Device) program. This is the second hospital in Izmir, which offers patients suffering from end-stage heart failure a life-saving therapy.

28.05.2009 500th Patient receives Berlin Heart EXCOR Pediatric Ventricular Assist Device

The 500th patient was supported with the Berlin Heart EXCOR® Pediatric Ventricular Assist Device (also known as the “Berlin Heart”) since the first implantation of the device in 1990. The patient, an 11-month-old girl, received the device at the Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago and has been successfully transplanted in the meantime.

26.03.2009 EXCOR Pediatric Patient at Heart and Diabetes Center Bad Oeynhausen Receives Heart Transplant

After 371 days of EXCOR® Pediatric support, 9-year-old Samira was transplanted at the Heart and Diabetes Center North Rhine-Westfalia (HDZ NRW) in Bad Oeynhausen, Germany. Samira was suffering from congenital ischemic cardiomyopathy and was already in conventional treatment at the Heart and Diabetes Center.

The EXCOR® Pediatric ventricular assist device was featured in a two-page article in People Magazine, one of the largest US publications. The magazine published the story of Tiana Tillman, daughter of NFL-Footballstar Charles Tillman and former EXCOR Pediatric patient.

16.10.2008 Berlin Heart’s EXCOR® Pediatric Receives Unconditional Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) Approval

Berlin, 16 October 2008. Berlin Heart GmbH today announced its EXCOR® Pediatric ventricular assist device (VAD) has received unconditional approval for the ongoing IDE clinical trial in the United States of America. The U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has fully approved the Investigational Plan for the IDE study of the device.
