New INCOR® User in Siberia

The Academician Meshalkin Novosibirsk Research Institute of Circulation Pathology (NRICP) is one out of three clinics in Russia using Berlin Heart systems. The NRICP is the largest and one of the leading federal cardiac surgery institutions in Siberia and the Far East. More than 600,000 patients have been treated here since the institute’s establishment by the USSR Acad-emy of Sciences in 1957.

Besides providing cardiac surgery assistance to the population, the institute specializes in research on the issues of pathogenesis, functional diagnostics, congenital and acquired heart diseases surgery, coronary heart diseases, and multifocal vascular system lesions.

The NRICP is led by Professor Alexander M. Karaskov and employs more than 1,500  people. Every year more than 1,500 research projects are implemented and more than 3,000 operations are performed. Doctors consult an average of 26,000 patients and provide inpatient care for more than 6,000 patients. The NRICP also acts as training center for cardiac surgeons from Russia and abroad: More than 12,000 cardiac surgeons have been trained at the NRICP since its  establishment.

Professor Alexander Chernyavski, the deputy scientific director of the NRICP, initiated the VAD program and has conducted both INCOR® implantations. The Berlin Heart INCOR® is the only ventricular assist device in use at the NRICP. „We chose the Berlin Heart systems because of the excellent clinical support before, during, and after the implantation. The INCOR® LVAD is a system that meets highest medical and technical demands, but can also be safely handled by patients”, explains Professor Chernyavski.
