Anticoagulation
For any VAD-Implantation it is common that all EXCOR® Pediatric patients will receive an anticoagulation and platelet inhibition therapy.
The anticoagulation will be given first as heparin and should be switched as soon as possible to oral therapy with vitamin-k-antagonists.
The platelet inhibition therapy is a combination of ASA and preferably clopidogrel and dipyridamole.
It is very important that in the first postoperative period anticoagulation and platelet function inhibition is controlled by regulary monitoring at close intervals.
The monitoring consists of thromboelastography and of the controlling of platelet functions by platelet function tests (aggregometry). The anticoagulation is controlled by PTT or INR.
Please find our recommendations concerning anticoagulation therapy in our manual which can be downloaded here. Of course you can contact our department of Clinical Affairs at any time for further information.
Wound Care
The incision through which the cable is passed should be treated like an open wound. During stationary hospital care, the patient’s wounds should always be attended to by the same person.A risk of infection can be avoided only with intensive wound care! Please find all details regarding wound care and treatment in our manual, which can be downloaded here.
In addition our department of Clinical Affairs will be pleased to assist you in any way.
