EXCOR® was developed mainly for patients whose heart is not
strong enough to provide their vital organs with an adequate supply of
blood. There are a number of possible reasons for this condition – e.g.
cardiomyopathy, a sudden heart attack, acute myocarditis or, especially
in children, following heart surgery. The EXCOR® system supports the
pumping function of a weakened heart.
EXCOR® is a mechanical heart support system suitable both for uni-ventricular use and bi-ventricular use.
The VAD EXCOR® is used for patients:
- who need a time-limited support of the pumping function of the heart, while they are waiting for transplantation
- for whom it may be possible that the heart can recover through temporarily relief.
- Who cannot receive a donor heart and require EXCOR® as a permanent assist device.
