Ventricular assist devices for patients worldwide

Berlin Heart GmbH develops, produces and markets innovative devices for mechanically supporting the heart. Our products EXCOR® Adult (not approved for use in North America) and EXCOR® Pediatric span the entire range of medical indications for patients of all ages – from newborn baby to adult. With dependable and globally successful products, Berlin Heart GmbH is one of the industry's market leaders.

With our solid position in the market, we will continue on our course of worldwide expansion based on innovative products, while relying on strategic international partnerships. Pivotal to such an expansion are our strategic partnerships with three of the world's leading heart centers: the German Heart Institute in Berlin, the Hospital for Sick Kids in Toronto, Canada  and the Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, Texas.

We are represented in the US by our wholly owned subsidiary Berlin Heart Inc., which was founded in October 2005. Berlin Heart Inc. provides support for implanting centers in the US, Canada, and Mexico. EXCOR® Pediatric is intended to provide mechanical circulatory support as a bridge to cardiac transplantation for pediatric patients. Pediatric candidates with severe isolated left ventricular or biventricular dysfunction who are candidates for cardiac transplant and require circulatory support may be treated using the EXCOR® Pediatric.

Robert Kroslowitz

President & CEO

Bob joined Berlin Heart in 2004 and was instrumental in the founding and establishment the company’s North American Business Unit, Berlin Heart Inc. Bob has been responsible for building the business within the market place and expanding the company’s presence throughout North America. Bob is passionate about fostering the development of medical devices specifically for the pediatric population and often speaks and serves on panels related to this topic. Prior to Joining Berlin Heart Bob held leadership and consulting roles in other medical device companies including NovoSci, Maquet, Jostra, Terumo, and Sorin. Bob earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Quinnipiac College.

Dudley Rajapaksa

Vice President Regulatory/ Quality/ Technical Service

Mr. Rajapaksa joined Berlin Heart Inc. in September 2009 as Manager Quality Assurance and has since been promoted to the position of Vice President, Regulatory, Quality and Technical Services. He has overall responsibility for the Company’s quality system, Service department and Regulatory compliance. He plays an integral role in developing regulatory strategy for getting FDA approval for EXCOR® product line.

Dudley has more than 30 years of professional experience, knowledge and skills in the medical device industry. Prior to joining Berlin Heart, Dudley worked in several Medical device Companies, such as Mallinckrodt Medical Inc. (currently Merit Medical Systems Inc.), NovoSci (formally Jostra Corp, TMP/ Surgmedics) and West Advanced Injection Systems as a Pre- Production Quality Engineer, Sr. Quality Engineer and Quality Assurance & Regulatory Manager.

Dudley earned his Master of Science degree in Industrial Engineering at the University of Oklahoma in 1986 and he also holds a master’s degree in Mechanical engineering from Patrice Lumumba People’s Friendship University, Moscow, Russia (formerly USSR).

Christine Tjossem

Director Clinical Science

Christine joined Berlin Heart Inc. in 2009 and currently serves as the Director of Clinical Science. Christine has over 30 years of experience in medical device research, having previously held positions with leading medical device companies including St. Jude Medical, Medtronic and Boston Scientific as well as with Clinical Research Organizations where she managed many projects across various therapeutic areas. She began her career working in medical research for Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Christine earned her Bachelor of Science in Statistics from Iowa State University.

Jennifer Braughton

Director Business Operations

Ms. Braughton serves as the Director of Business Operations for Berlin Heart Inc. since 2008. Her expertise in human resource management, corporate facilities, insurance, contracts and operational support has guided the long-term success of the company. She currently oversees the Logistics Department as well as the Financial Department.  Prior to Berlin Heart, Jennifer worked for NovoSci (formally Jostra Corp, LifeStream International, TMP, & Surgmedics) bringing 10 years Cardiopulmonary product and business experience. She has an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from Sam Houston State University and is PHR certified from Rice University.
